Nowhere does the Bible suggest that one make a blind leap into belief without adequate evidence. When Paul began proclaiming Christ, following his conversion, he set about proving that Jesus was the Messiah based upon solid historical evidence Acts Our own faith is anchored in the credibility of the biblical record, which is substantiated by ample evidence itself. Second, once one arrives at a conviction that Christ is the Son of God with the various truths that are attendant to that , he genuinely must be disposed to trust the Savior for the salvation that only he can effect. No person with an inkling of biblical knowledge would affirm that man has an innate ability to produce his own redemption.

Third, the New Testament clearly indicates that faith involves much more than having a conviction concerning the Lord, or even a willingness to trust him.

It usually means acknowledgment of some personal claim, or even a complete personal commitment to some ideal of person , When Jesus was in Capernaum, the crowds so pressed him that some who sought his presence could not gain access. Four men brought a lame friend. They climbed to the rooftop of the house wherein Christ was teaching and lowered their companion through the ceiling.

What did Christ see? He literally saw the action of these men including the sick one who obviously endorsed the activity. But the action is called faith. A comparison of this verse with Hebrews reveals that the former is the case. In John believing results in eternal life. In Hebrews eternal salvation is promised to those who obey him. We have cited the American Standard Version here because it is more accurate in its rendition of the original language than the King James Version.

Is not Christ suggesting that the one who obeys the Son is promised life, but the person who disobeys will not receive such? But the Jews that were disobedient stirred up the souls of the Gentiles, and made them evil affected against the brethren Acts Elsewhere we are informed that God was displeased with many rebellious Israelites in the wilderness. Evincing repentance for having beaten his prisoners , the jailor washed their stripes. Subsequently, he and his family were immersed Acts The book of Romans demonstrates that faith is an action term.

Faith and obedience are parallel here.

We must believe and respond to the Word which then will produce in us faith as a 'fruit of the Spirit' Galatians Faith as a fruit of the Spirit operating in our lives, draws us into close relationship and trust in Him. The operation of faith is dependent upon our relationship with God.

John abide in me,and I in you.

What Is Faith as the Bible Defines It?

Jesus said, "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you" John 7. There are four foundations for Biblical faith 1. The Integrity of The Word "Every good and perfect gift, comes down from the Father of light, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

This is where the Spirit of God comes into operation to open our spiritual ears to hear, so that faith can operate, as faith is a faculty of our human spirit. Faith must rest on facts, realities from the Word of God, otherwise what you believe can be presumption, if it originates from self.

When a 'word' is quickened to one's spirit by the holy Spirit, then it will agree with the written Word in principle. Initial saving faith, as well as the exercise of ongoing faith, is an impartation of the Spirit, a 'gift' of the Holy Spirit. Reading the written Word and keeping filled with the Spirit will facilitate our faith to be activated and enable us to move and live in the faith realm. With salvation particularly, an informed mind does not guarantee saving faith, "For unto us was the gospel preached as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Faith confidence, belief, trust is also our evidence of that which is not seen—the invisible spiritual things. Faith comes before a prayer is answered or before an individual has received what he or she has requested from God. If we have received what we asked for, then faith is not needed. And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. Their faith and assurance that Jesus could give them sight was the substance or reality they hoped for. It also gave them the evidence or trust that they would receive what they asked for.

Where Does Faith Come From?

They believed; that is, they had faith in advance that it would be done. Those who refused to bow to the image were threatened with being thrown into a fiery pit alive. They did not know in advance how God would deliver them from the fiery furnace, whether at that time by saving their physical lives or later in the resurrection.

The Nature of Faith

Their faith or trust was the substance of what they hoped for, and it was the evidence of that which was not yet seen or received. Their faith or trust was built on serving God and obeying His commandments. They believed God would deliver them because they obeyed His commandments and did not bow down to worship any others gods. The apostle James, who was the half-brother of Jesus Christ, wrote in his epistle about what he called dead faith.
